BA: Music
Krister Sweeney-Centeno
Guitar, Piano

Krister Sweeney-Centeno began playing the guitar at the age of 6 and the piano at the age of 12. After years of development through private lessons, he was enrolled in the Durham School of the Arts. While there, his guitar teacher Marc Davis, inspired Krister to further follow a path in music.

Outside of school, Krister learned to play classical guitar under Duke University music professor Randy Reed. Additionally, the piano became a personal passion as he rapidly developed his skills, learning to play complex pieces.

Over the next few years, he would go on to perform at several school functions as well as jazz competitions that the school regularly attended. During his senior year, he was called upon to be the sole guitar performer at a classical music concert in which the DSA guitar department had not previously participated. Shortly after high school graduation, Krister played his first professional gig doing instrumental accompaniment to a series of performances of Bring It On: The Musical alongside his former teacher Marc Davis.

Krister attended college at the University of North Texas from which he received a BA in Music. While there he furthered his training in piano and classical guitar while also performing at several on campus venues including charity concerts and choir performances.

Now that he has graduated, Krister would like to share his knowledge and love of music with others. Development through fun activities within genres of interest to the student are the foundation to his teaching style. He is a strong believer in ensuring his students stay interested and motivated to further develop their skills.
