Award-winning artist Shawn "CoCo" McMillan is a native of St. Pauls, NC. Known for her melodious voice and dynamic stage presence, CoCo has been performing both locally and internationally for over 15 years.

In 2004, CoCo won the "Next Gospel Star Competition" in Raleigh, NC. This experience catapulted her career as a vocalist and led to opportunities to share the stage with Kim Burrell, Beverly Crawford, Shirley Ceasar, The Mississippi Mass Choir, Kurt Karr, Byron Cage, Rizen, and many other artists. CoCo's extraordinary talent soon captured the attention of Dr. Bobby Jones at the International Gospel Retreat in Las Vegas, NV, and Miami, FL. Impressed by her performances, Dr. Jones invited her to appear on the Bobby Jones Gospel Show (BET) and at the Worldwide Network Retreat. In 2006, CoCo shared her talent on BET & TV-One Network with the late Gerald Levert, with whom she went on to perform for 11 years.

CoCo has performed as a background singer for Aaliyah, Mikki Howard, and the O’Jays. She has completed international assignments in Casablanca & Marrakesh, Morocco, performing at several prestige events at the Selman Palace and Sofitel Hotel for the King and royal families. She has shared her gift for song on Spiritual Awakening (WRAL), FOX 50 TV, the Hilarious Comedy Tour, and NABFEME's 'Women Who Jam' tour.

In 2010, CoCo was nominated for the Stellar Award for New Artist of the Year for her album “I’ve Been Delivered.”  She is now featured on the Praise Collection DVD with various artists including Mary Mary, Fred Hammond and others.

CoCo is a longtime Cary resident and is very active in her local community. She has been a mentor and teacher for the youth at her church for 15 years. She provides vocal coaching and oversight to a comprehensive youth ministry focusing on stage performances, vocal strength ability, and vocal techniques. She has performed for the the St. Jude Radiothon, Dorcas Ministries, Cary Invasion Basketball Games, Capital City Hope Foundation, and many of the area’s churches. She has also appeared on local radio stations WLAS 95.3 "The Soul of the City" and 103.9 FM "The Light."

CoCo completed her undergraduate studies at Shaw University in Raleigh, NC. She sang in the University Choir and Gospel Choir throughout her four years at Shaw. Her most influential music teachers were Lonieta Thompson Cornwall (professor, organist and choral director) and Lenora Helm (professor at North Carolina Central University and co-director of the university's vocal jazz ensemble). Both professors inspired her with their amazing talent, phenomenal teaching and passion for music. CoCo graduated in 1994 with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice; twelve years later, in 2016, she was honored to be inducted into the Shaw University Hall of Fame.

CoCo is the first to admit that she has been truly blessed and would not have been able to accomplish her goals without her lifelong faith. This faith, coupled with her vast experience as a performer, collaborator, and educator, has equipped CoCo to bring creativity, inspiration and leadership to youth and adults with a passion for music. She firmly believes that the key to musical growth for any student is to enjoy your own unique gifts and to let your light shine.
